Never heard of Barnum and Forer effect?
From Wikipedia: "The Forer effect (also called the effect of subjective validation effect or the name of Barnum PT Barnum, circus known) is the observation that which every individual, faced with a psychological profile that he believes he reportedly tend to identify with it believed to be accurate and thorough, without realizing that that profile is fairly vague and general to adapt to a very large number of people. "
is short, the tendency to believe the general statements made more or less explicitly to appeal to everyone.
An example:
Feel the need to please and to assert admired, but at the same time you have a tendency to be too self-critical. Your character has some weaknesses, but in general you are able to compensate. You have the significant potential that you have not yet used to your advantage. Despite outwardly show discipline and self-control, inside you tend to be anxious and insecure. Sometimes you wonder seriously if you made the choice or the right thing. Do you prefer change and variety and you are unhappy when you feel forced or limited, I proudly said to be a free thinker, and does not accept the ideas of others until you are brought sufficient evidence in their favor. But you found that it is not to be too smart to others. Sometimes you are outgoing, friendly and sociable, while other times you are introverted, reserved and closed. Some of your aspirations seem unattainable.
all goes back to an experiment conducted by psychologist Forer in 1948.
This ploy is used today to draw up horoscopes, personal profiles, in seminaries or motivational gurus of various sects, however, by charlatans.
not sure I would have expected an identikit could also give rise to the Forer effect (in this case is more suitable to use another name, inspired by a famous circus)
